A wedding gown is usually correlated to a wedding, to a bridal image, to a happy event in one’s life. It represents a woman’s chastity, purity and her statue of a married one, the step she makes in this way. But life in not always generous with people and unfortunate events can happen.

According to tradition but religious dogmas as well a human being must pass in its life through several experiences. The first one is the baptism, the christening moment. The baby receives the God’s blessing and the union with the divinity is made. Then, there is the wedding ceremony, another sacred event, the union between a man and a woman; God gives its blessing again for a new family that will be created. And lastly, after all these, there is the death.

And so, when she is buried she will have to wear a wedding dress, a purely white one. This is the conception in tradition and religion, like the possibility for that young lady to pass through all the steps in her life. Now the white dress is the symbol for the wedding ceremony, a virtual, a symbolic one.

The second aspect as ell different is when a baby dies. Baby bereavement gown represents as well the necessary outfit. On the one hand this represents the baptism ceremony, if the baby could not reach this point. It is as well white outfit to suggest and represent the purity of its soul, the innocence. On the other hand it is as well about wedding ceremony, again that though about the baby passing through all the symbolic steps.

Wedding gown and baby bereavement gown are not different as aspect. For a woman’s outfit there is no veil included but as a general appearance they are alike the usual wedding gowns needed for the wedding ceremonies or for the christening one.

To sum up, as an unfortunate event in some people’s life wearing the wedding gown can not be considered a happy event. Still, it is a necessary formality imposed for its symbolic meaning in life. In life and in death wedding gowns have a great importance.
