How to make a bridesmaid dress into a usual one

Being a bridesmaid involves a less pleasant aspect. It is about the dress. Despite the fact that it may be one that you usually not choose to wear you see yourself with it after the wedding. And what to do with her? In some cases the bride pays for it, in some cases the price is half the bride’s responsibility, half for the maid of honor. Still, in case it is not rented you remain with it.




Considering on long term the bridesmaid dress is comparable with a bridal wedding gown. You remain with it and with no possibility to wear it some other time.

But is it really so? How to make a bridesmaid dress into a usual and useful one? Let’s see  some ideas.

First of all, from the very beginning when you go with the bride to choose the bridesmaid dress think about to combine the pleasure with utility. You take what the bride imposes but you choose a convertible dress. What is this? A type of dress that can be worn in different ways, different styles. For example, you have a dress with straps: they can be let down and become an attractive dress with a simple corset. You can not change the color but you can make it different regarding the style, and so it becomes useful for you to wear it at a different wedding or a cocktail event for example.

Going further, how to make a bridesmaid dress into a usual one depends as well on the initial style of the dress.  If it is a dress with attachments, with imitated diamonds on it for example it is harder to think about changing it into something else. The style is too pretentious and removing the decorative details can totally ruin the dress.

The cut of the dress counts as well. A tea length bridesmaid dress is easier to “transform” it. Easily you can cut it and make it shorter and so, wear it at some special events.

The same thing applies for a long dress. Some others modifications you can do is to add a ribbon at the waist, a bolero above your shoulders and if the dress allows you a hoop skirt and so make it appropriate even for a prom. Furthermore, another thing is about the arms. If the dress is simple, with uncovered shoulders or back you can add some sleeves or gloves. You will see how quickly the whole image will change.

After all I believe that it all counts the aesthetically sense and your ability to make another appearance from the dress. But not only this, but how the dress looks like from the very beginning. For example, the easiest ways are in case of formal dresses that allow you to make it shorter or informal ones that can easily turn into something else with some attachments.
