Grecian Wedding Gowns

Greek wedding as in any other culture has its own variety of manifestation depending on the region or belief, but there are still some features that are common throughout the Greek territory. First the wedding doesn't take place without a prior engagement ceremony where the couple exchange the rings and the mother of the bride is supposed to give as dowry different housekeeping items to help the couple to start with something for their new home place. The marriage itself takes place after this engagement but bride and groom do not exchange vows, their simple presence in the church should be enough to cement the commitment for a lifetime to be spent together.

As to the wedding dress it still carries the features that outlined the 'fashion' of the ancient Greek women. The dress was very simple conceived mostly as an arrangement of fabric that was folded and wrapped around the body and tied with a belt to define the waist. The Greek women used to embellish the borders of the dress with Doric geometric stylized patterns or floral forms, whereas the elegance came from the specific care they paid to arrange the folds of the fabrics.

grecian-wedding-gownsFashion designers in their creativity have taken the patterns of the ancient Greek dress in order to create simple but elegant Grecian wedding gowns conveying the bride who wears the dress the air of a Greek goddess. The Greek gown with its soft sophistication and seductive style made the object of a hot trend last year in the fashion parades. Designers such as Vera Wang, Alberta Ferretti and Badgley Mischka have displayed their collection of creation in spring 2008 with clear influences from the ancient Greece on dresses that were draped, having intricate folds and pleats and even the toga-style covering only one shoulder.

The Grecian look of a wedding gown is rendered by either a long, fluidic silhouette or by a series of floating layers. These patterns present the advantage of concealing a round tummy and large hips or any other bump you are not comfortable with. Fashion designers in their creations have combined the bell shaped skirt with the Grecian corsage for the upper part of the dress, this combination leading to a special definition of elegance and simplicity. Depending on the fabrics the combination of the couture - one for the skirt and the other for the corsage - gives birth to different styles, as it is the case of a loose skirt complimented by a pleated bodice and straps twisted either on the back side or front or the silk chiffon v-necked dress that has an empire waist and a beaded accent.

The famous Calvin Klein is also known to have used the simple, clean-lined Greek couture dress made of jersey fabric; jersey having the reputation to drape and fall very natural on every woman body. Choosing the  Grecian wedding gown for your wedding attire helps you look natural in a way that only the Greek goddess were represented.
