Gothic style wedding gowns

You don’t have to be a “dark” princess or to consider yourself a depressed, unlucky woman in order to opt for a gothic wedding gown, there’s no such thing on your wedding day. The gothic art, as well as the gothic architecture and some other gothic movements, have influenced mentalities and generations centuries after centuries, gothic fashion being one of the main features of gothic subcultures. In the world of wedding gowns, the gothic style has given stupendous, very appreciated wedding dresses.

This gothic style has become more and more convenient for people who organize their lives after some other sets of rules and principles. Of course a gothic wedding gown isn’t for any woman who wants to get married and to have a breath taking wedding gown. A gothic gown supposes a similar mentality and behavior or, at least, a great passion for the gothic movement and all that it involves in other domains and directions too. It’s clear that is representative for the more non-conformist brides, of a more dramatic and dark attitude and lifestyle, maybe those inspired and fascinated by vampires’ stories and movies.

A gothic wedding gown calls in for the presence of bizarre and exhibitionism, as well as for novelty and a sense of originality. It can also come in the style of the Renaissance dresses, for the passionate, but also in different combination of medieval with gypsy style and celtic, for romantic, modern or Victorian looks. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be black. Gothic wedding gowns are available on red, dark purple, dark green or even white, but in the most of the cases on black, which inspires a tint of mysticism.

If you choose a black dress, you will obtain a very gothic and dark look, so different from the Western cultures, where the dominant color in wedding gowns is white. Red is the traditional color for the Asian weddings and can bring about an interesting feminine and sexy side of the gothic bride, emphasizing her body shapes, while purple has become very popular among the gothic style designers, for being more daring and provocative, without wearing black.

As it what concerns the fabrics used for gothic wedding gowns, the most used and preferred among these dresses are, first of all, velvet, very appreciated for its smoothness and richness of texture, which seems perfect for a gothic dress. Also very suitable are the brocade and lace, for a summer time wedding and also for a more vintage or Victorian look.

There are three major styles within the gothic theme: one will be the classic one in the Victorian style, then the Edwardian, that gives the bride’s look a touch of romanticism and can be a bit less morbid than the former, and last but not least, the modern gothic, which can easily bring together the gothic lines by wearing a corset.

For much more gothic effects, some brides decide upon wearing a veil, gloves – preferable the opera length ones- and flowers like dark roses in deep red, blue or purple shades. Very adequate accesories are the handkerchiefs, garters or lace fans in order to have all the gothic elements for a perfect gothic bride.
