Before even starting preserving the dress, you should really learn how to clean it. The best way to clean it at home is wet-cleaning. This method uses water and detergents and it’s very good for food stains and wine spills. Plus if the dress is properly rinsed , there will be no detergent left in the fabric that can deteriorate the dress trough time. Next step – preservation.

The best way to preserve a dress, not just a wedding dress, is to put it in a cotton bag. Cotton lets the fabric breath and prevents molding. Plastic bags are the worst thing to do to your wedding dress because it doesn’t let the moisture out. Another thing you shouldn’t do it to fold your dress.
Through time fabric weakens where it’s folded, just like paper does. The folds became permanent or worse, you might end up with a shredded wedding dress. The best way to keep the gown is to keep is out of light, in a big closet.
Try and remember to inspect it once in a while. Besides looking for problems it will remind you of your wedding day.
